Night skiing

Going skiing has always been on my list of things to do before I shuffle off of my mortal coil, and I finally got the opportunity to give it a go last Sunday. Our friends Michal and Nathan, both avid snowboarders, planned an Ignite night skiing expedition to Mount Hood Meadows that would accommodate both beginners and pros. I definitely fall into the beginner category; in fact, I was worried I might even fall into the "hit a tree and get a concussion" category. Fortunately, I did neither.

KC found a beginner package online, which included a two hour lesson, gear rental, and lift ticket for $25.00-- score! Though I had a pleasant instructor, the lesson left me feeling uncoordinated and discouraged, and I began to fret about trying to maneuver the actual slope. But after a snack and some sugary Coke, KC accompanied me to Buttercup (ie: the beginner slope) and gave me some pointers that made sense. Pretty soon I was swooping down the hill in half circles, and after a few panicked crashes, I eventually learned how to slow down and stop. I even had a complete run without falling down once!

All in all, I think I did a pretty decent job for my first afternoon on skis. Monday morning was an illumination as to how sore and bruised a new snowbunny could be, but it was well worth it. As KC pointed out, I earned those bruises!

Waiting for my lesson to begin

My handsome boyfriend-turned instructor

Gordon, KC, and Kimberly hit up a more advanced course

Taking a break in the lodge

Couldn't have done it without him!

Getting off the terrifying lift all by myself for the first time! A feat indeed, considering I tottered and tripped off twice (oops...)

My verdict? Would totally go again ;)

Way to go girl! I love skiing, but it's too darn expensive!
