Samuel and Auntie Sarah

Today I had a date with my best sweetheart, Samuel. It was somewhat of a belated birthday celebration, to which I was late upon arrival. He had been up, dressed, and ready to go for hours. Fortunately, a four-year-old grasp of time is forgiving and he didn't hold it against me.

We stopped by Goodnight Room, which left us both surprisingly unimpressed, and then hit up Borders. Samuel picked out a retro-looking space blaster gun and a Wallace and Gromit dvd (no, I'm not trying to force British things on him...yet).

At lunchtime, he was feeling adventureous, and when I asked him what he wanted to eat, he replied, "Japanese noodles." We compromised and went to the sushi bar (complete with conveyer belt!) across the street. Samuel patiently sat through a chopstick lesson, but opted for a fork, with which he used to eat rice, kitsune tofu, egg, and takoyaki (that's an octopus dumpling for you greenhorns out there). He proclaimed the latter his favorite. That's my boy.

Next was a trip to the gelatto shop. Never one to waste a good dessert, he demolished a small cup of the m&m flavor.

Shooting me with the blaster :(

I'm astounded by how articulate and intelligent this kiddo is, as well as his incredible elephant's memory. When we were discussing my time in Japan, he asked if I had felt sad there. I told him yes, because I was away from him, my friends, and family. He then asked if I was sad like Rose. Rose? I wondered. Yes, he replied, like Rose on the beach. That's when I remembered back to about two months ago; I had been showing him some video clips of Doctor Who on Youtube. He had been fascinated by the sad goodbye scene at the end of season two. What a remarkable kid!

But then, he's had my heart wrapped up in his little fingers from the first moment I laid eyes on him ;) Can't wait for more of these moments with Jude and Juliet too!

Snow Princess (part two)

Last Saturday, I got in touch with my inner snowbunny and headed up to the mountain with Jana, Jill, and the Ignite crew for some tubing. Can you believe I've never done any snow-related snow activity, with the exception of ghetto snowman building? Lame, huh?

I caffeinated myself, layered up, suited up, and had an absolute blast!

Getting a lift up to the slides (I'm the light blue puffball)

Ironically enough, our trip began at the first aid center and ended there (poor Jill)

Hiding behind lotsa skis

Beautiful view

Getting ready to cliff jump (it was itty-bitty, really)

Little princess

Does it get any better than McGladrey children? I mean, really? ;)

Kami's Juliet is the sweetest little muffin I've ever seen, with her tiny fingers and delicate, rosebud mouth.

Just when I think I can't love any other kiddos as much as I love Samuel and Jude (well, and Erin & Andrew Berry and Olivia & Jonah Flamm), I find that there's room in my adoration for one more ;)

Happy New Year! (slightly belated)

I entered 2009 with style, thanks to Miss Kelly and the gorgeous scarf she made for me! ;)

Thanks, lady!

Holy. Crap.

The BBC just officially announced the casting of the eleventh Doctor, who will take over for David Tennant in 2010.

He's much younger than we're used to, but watch him spazz out and swirl his fingers about. Already a bit like Ten ;) I think he might be okay... with Steven Moffat at the helm, we're in good hands (hopefully).
