Someone wonderful is making me Rose's "Boomtown" scarf for Christmas! I'm a firm believer that there's no such thing as having too many scarves ;)

A Whovian Halloween

The Doctor: I've been chasing this wee naked child over hill and over dale. Isn't that right, you... tim'rous beastie?

Rose: [in a terrible Scottish accent] Och aye! I've been oot and aboot!


So, as I may have mentioned (at least half a dozen times) before, this year I was determined to be Rose Tyler from "Doctor Who" for Halloween. More specifically, I wanted to don the infamous Dungaree denim miniskirt from "Tooth and Claw" , an episode set in Scotland during the reign of Queen Victoria. Because I am a meticulous dork, lots of effort went into recreating this ensemble...

The exact miniskirt was most fortuitously located on UK ebay, but the shirt had to be made and the wig cut and styled. First, I hunted for a fairly accurate crown t-shirt on Cafe Press. Next, I cut the emblem out and then attached it (with fusing web) to this shirt from American Apparel. And finally, I did some decorative hand-stitching in mauve over and around the crown:

I had an absolute blast putting this together--yay for researching things! Such a shame that I have to wait a whole year before taking up another fun costuming project. Guess I'll have to throw myself into some holiday baking. Speaking of which, I'll be posting pictures from my Halloween party soon, as well as the spooky spread of treats I served up!

So I've never tried to make a secret of my enthusiasm when it comes to Halloween and this year is no exception. My community group at church is planning a Harvest party/costume event, so I wanted to dress as uniquely, even at the risk of having no one know who I'm supposed to be!

CHECK out those roots, y'all. Those were hand-crafted! Mom and I had fun teasing and tweaking that poor wig with a sharpie pen, some scissors, a brush, and peroxide! It's a bit shorter than I wanted, but it'll work.

An also not-so-secret fact: I loved making my eyebrows three times bigger than they actually are and trashing up my make-up with some very loud MAC products. Gotta get that six-layers of mascara on there if I ever want to compete with George, the Bridgeport MAC diva...
